Our Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design spans two years across 8 Terms, providing you with crucial theoretical and technical knowledge.

This course is designed to prepare you for a career as a senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer supporting professional engineers in the planning and execution of infrastructure projects.

Throughout this program, you’ll gain practical skills and knowledge in managing the civil works design process, designing of motorways and interchanges, preparation of detailed traffic analysis, establishing and maintaining a quality system and producing basic drawings by using computer aided design systems. This qualification reflects the responsibilities of individuals working as senior civil works designers or para-professional designers, handling broad, specialised, complex, and technical tasks, including strategic initiatives.

What You Will Learn

This course involves a combination of various learning activities such as: case studies, project assessments, research work, knowledge assessment and computer aided design. By completing this course you will gain skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Manage scope, quality and procurement of a project
  • Manage risks of a program
  • Manage team effectively
  • Application of safe design principles to control WHS risks
  • Manage the civil works design process
  • Design of motorways and interchanges
  • Preparation of detailed traffic analysis
  • Establish and maintain a quality system
  • Produce basic drawing by using computer aided design system
Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Must hold a current Approved visa for study in Australia (at the time of course commencement)
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory completion of studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification*
  • Are required to provide evidence of any one of the following tests of upper intermediate proficiency in English: (see exemptions below)

*On 26 July 2023 the TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) stopped offering English language tests for Australian visa purposes. A score for a TOEFL iBT test taken on or after 26 July 2023 will no longer satisfy the English langauge requirement for Approved visa for study in Australia purposes. Only TOEFL iBT scores from a test taken on or before 25 July 2023 are accepted for Approved visa for study in Australia purposes.

* Under 18 students must have welfare and accommodation arrangements approved by the Department of Home Affairs.

Exemptions:

You do not need to provide evidence of an English test score with your visa application if one of the following applies:

  •  You are a citizen and hold a passport from the UK, USA, Canada, NZ, or Republic of Ireland
  • You are an applicant who is a Foreign Affairs or, Defence sponsored student or a Secondary Exchange student (AASES)
  • You are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
  •  You have completed at least 5 years’ study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
  • In the 2 years before applying for the approved visa for study in Australia, you completed, in Australia and in the English language, either the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate IV or higher level, while you held a approved visa for study in Australia.

Note: You may be required to provide evidence of an English test score with your visa application if you hold a British National Overseas (BNO) passport.
