The Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology prepares you for a career in the Australian automotive retail, service and repair industry. Designed for individuals looking to start or develop their careers, this program provides the practical skills and technical knowledge required to work across a range of light vehicle mechanical systems.

The course focuses on diagnosing, repairing and maintaining light vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, braking, steering, suspension, fuel and electrical systems. You will also develop skills in using automotive tools, equipment and diagnostic techniques.

With practical, hands-on training at the core of the program, the course supports the development of industry-relevant skills and practical capability. Upon completion, you may also progress to higher-level automotive qualifications, subject to the entry requirements of the relevant course.

This course equips you with practical skills and knowledge to excel in light vehicle mechanics. Key outcomes include:

To enrol, applicants must:

• Be at least 16 years of age at course commencement and demonstrate the maturity and capability required to participate safely in automotive workshop training and assessment
• Have completed Australian Year 10 or equivalent
• Meet the English language requirement of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, or an approved pathway or exemption
• Have basic computer and digital skills
• Have access to the required course resources and equipment

There are no formal prerequisites for this qualification.

Before enrolment, South Sydney College (SSC) reviews each applicant’s relevant language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills, digital skills and overall suitability for the course. The review may include an LLND assessment and is used to determine whether the course is suitable for the applicant and identify any support that may be required.
