Top 15 Travel and Pre Departure Checklist for International Students in Australia

Travel and Pre-Departure Checklist for International Students in Australia

The next step is to begin making plans for your arrival in Australia once you have received your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) to pursue study at an Australian education or training provider and confirmation of your student visa.

Here are our top 15 recommendations and Pre Departure Checklist for International students. Make sure you’re prepared by using the pre-flight checklist below!

1. Passport

Before traveling to Australia, make sure your passport is valid for at least six months. Making hard copies of your passport is also a smart idea in case of an emergency.

2. Visa

Before you board a plane, make sure you have all of your visa documentation, including an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment, or eCoE, with you. This will allow you to enter and study in Australia. More details on visas can be found on our page of frequently asked questions.

3. Vaccination documentation

Beginning on July 6, 2022, you won’t need to provide documentation of your COVID-19 vaccination to enter Australia. However, for their own safety, we advise all travelers to get immunized.

As some countries may require vaccinations, be sure to check the requirements of your airline and any countries you are transiting through.

4. Flights

Confirm that your arrival date will allow you enough time to get acclimated to your new city and institution before the start of your study period. Along with your passport and visa information, keep the specifics of your flight in a safe and secure location. Make no travel plans until you have received your student visa.

5. Verify your requirements

You must be aware of and ready to fulfill the requirements for both your arrival in Australia and your study destination (if you plan to transit within Australia). Here you can find the most recent specifications for your state or territory.

6. Covid 19 Test

The Australian government no longer requires people traveling to Australia to have a COVID-19 test before travel (evidence of a negative COVID-19 test). The requirements of your airline and any nations you transit through must still be verified, though.

7. Travel Insurance

You should think about purchasing travel insurance in addition to your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), which provides coverage for things like canceled flights and some medical expenses. For more information and suggestions on the best travel insurance policy for you, consult your education or travel agent.

8. Contact information

It’s a good idea to travel with a list of emergency contact information. As well as the information for your embassy, lodging, and institution, make a note of your family and any other personal contacts you may have in Australia.

Keep the contact information of your education agent on your phone if you have used their services in case you need to get in touch with them once you arrive in Australia.

9. Australian currency

Although there are money exchange offices in Australian cities and airports, it is advised that you bring some Australian money with you when you arrive. For more information on getting money and setting up a bank account, visit our page titled “Plan your arrival.”

10. Arrival procedures

You’ll also need to fill out an incoming passenger card. The Australian Border Force website has details on what to anticipate during border clearance.

11. What you can (and cannot) bring into Australia

Due to strict border controls, you must be aware of what is allowed and prohibited. Australia’s biosecurity laws have been strengthened, and failure to accurately declare biosecurity goods at the Australian border will result in penalties.

This means that you must declare,

  • Any food, plant material, and animal items when you arrive in Australia.
  • Weapons, firearms, and ammo
  • Monetary values of A$10000 (or foreign equivalent)
  • A few medications

12. Accommodations

Prior to your arrival, make sure your lodging has been reserved and confirmed. Make a note of the address and phone number of the location where you will be staying.

13. Provide your address to your educational provider

In accordance with visa condition 8533, you must provide your residential address to your educational provider within seven (7) days of your arrival in Australia.

14. Do you intend to work?

You may work in addition to your studies thanks to your student visa. You can both make some extra spending money and learn priceless language and cultural skills in the process. Learn everything you need to know about working as an international student in Australia.

15. Have fun and enjoy your time studying in Australia.

Your Study Australia adventure starts after you’ve arrived and finished settling into your new home and surroundings. You will be prepared for a unique experience by the neighborhood, the locations of our cities, and everything there is to do and see – in addition to your studies.

You now belong to a generation that significantly contributes to Australian society. Amazing people who were once foreign students now call Australia home. We are happy you can be a part of our community and welcome you.
